In Texas Hold'em, a side pot is created when a player goes all-in but doesn't have enough chips to match the full bets of their opponents. The main pot consists of the all-in player's chips and an equal amount from each opponent. Any additional bets made by the remaining players go into a separate side pot, which the all-in player can't win. If the all-in player has the best hand, they win the main pot while the side pot goes to the player with the second-best hand. This rule ensures that players can't be forced out of a hand due to insufficient chips.
