In the game of poker, the big blind and small blind are essential to starting the betting off each round. These are forced bets made before the cards are dealt. The player to the left of the dealer is usually tasked with the small blind, which is typically half the minimum bet. Meanwhile, the player to the left of the small blind puts in the full minimum bet, also known as the big blind. These blinds keep the game moving and ensure there's always money in the pot.
